    Legion Irlandais Empty Legion Irlandais

    Message par yanlesom Mar 27 Déc 2011 - 0:14

    Dear all, hello!

Will you be able to help me in below's button identification.
The object was found in Russia along the napoleonic army's retreat way.
It is made of laiton and silver-coated.
    Legion Irlandais Ddudnd10
Basiclly it is easy to say that the button belongs to Irish troops.

But the problem is that both - Legion and Regiment Irlandais worn yellow buttons.
And the samples of it are well known.
Only after regiment was transformed into 3-d Legion Etrangere the button colour was chnged into white.

Therefore current button is a subject for discussion.

This button is very particular bill is more similar to the buttons Irish used in the English army fighting in the U.S. and Canada in 1812.
This is a priori lyre surmounted by the crown of the province of Munster, not that of King George who usually surmounted the lyre.La motto: Prosperity to Ireland n has no military! Unlike a similar button that you will find on the net "Volunteers Regiment Royal Dublin"

I do not think that this button comes from the Russian campaign at this time
The regiment was highly structured in three battalions, and had a uniform regulatory and buttons
I am enclosing a photo of a single copy found by me.

I have also owned the other button marked "Irish Regiment" button again, and French was not of Irish origin. This button has never set foot in Russia, especially as the regiment at that time no longer had a lot of Irish in these rankings, only 65 !!!!!

Thank you to my friend Pascal Dumeaux precise explanations for these

Thank you, Christ2burd and your friend!
It is clear now and no more doubts I have about the button we discuss

In Russia we ususally meet buttons like below
    Legion Irlandais Dndddd10

And the same way made buttons of Legion Irlandais.
