Dear Fellow officers,
You all know that Napoleonics has been using a stats system to follow the progress of its officers. We made this stats system public and some officers from outside our clan have been using it. We then felt that this ranking system does not take into account a lot of parameters that go into play in a victory or a defeat, so we thought of a different ranking system using a formula of our invention to try and better represent these multiple factors.
The formula relies on a points system where the:
Points gained if victorious =
100 x (own faction coefficient) x ( 2- opponent faction coefficient) x( 0.5 + opponent success rate) x [(0.9 if defender) or (1 if attacker)]
Points lost in a defeat = (vicotry points gained by opponent)/3.
The points from all ranking games will be added then divided by the number of ranking games played to get an average points gained per game. This number will be multiplied by the average kills/killed ratio of said officer in his ranking games played (the average kills/killed ratio will be calculated for each officer as the average kills/killed ratio for him and his teammates in any given game). To explain it further, sometimes an officer sacrifices his forces for the greater good and so his average kills/killed ratio will be the average of the total kills/killed for his team in that game.
Finally the number obtained after multiplication with the Avg Kills/killed ratio will be multiplied by a coefficient depending on how many ranking games are played:
1 -multiplying the average points per game by 1.05 if played more than 100 games
2- By 1.1 if more than 200 games
3- By 1.15 if more than 300 games
4- By 1.2 if more than 400 games
This final number will be used in the ranking process.
the factions coefficients are the following:
(France) = 0.9 (Britain) = 0.95 (Russia, Austria, Prussia, Portugal) = 1 (Spain, Naples, Sweden, Netherlands/belgium) = 1.05 (ottomans, Brunswick) = 1.1
This formula takes into account how well you did in a battle, what faction you played ( the stronger your faction, the less experience you gain), what faction the enemy played ( the weaker his faction the less points you gain) , how tough your opponent is (reflected in his overall success ratio), and how tough the terrain is (usually defender has better terrain). I tried to make the formula include all the significant parameters in a game.
It was then decided to also include the kills/killed ratio into the equation as a heroic victory should give you more points than a close vicotry.
We decided to use the average points per game and not add the points per game as in this way whoever plays the most will rank first and this is not what we want to reflect.
Everybody will start with a success ratio of 30% at baseline, and 30% will be the lowest success ratio used in this formula, also we will all start from zero points and zero points is the lowest you go, you cannot go negative. Finally you have to play at least 25 ranking games to be ranked in the system.
Starting November first 2008 you will be able to upload your ranking games by checking the box for ranking games in the upload page. You can find a link to the upload page in the N trophy website.
Not all games should be uploaded as ranking games, as we do not want officers to refrain from training their comrades out of fear of ruining their stats. Ranking games are games that would be agreed upon by both parties prior to the game. It will be sort of the competitive games ranking only. You are still able to upload your other games like you did before without checking the box for ranking.
We intend to modify this same principle and apply it to ETW if we do not care much for their ranking system.
