Although Empire has many things in common with our beloved NTW, the number of differences between them still seems to be bigger. Empire is being released in 3 or 4 days, and most of us ( including me, if my damned old PC will of cource manage to handle with those massive battles) will start playing it online from the very first day we'll get it.However LoV set of rules, at least it's minor part, doesn't seem to be suitable for some new conditions. That's the reason I thought we might think about the new set of rules for Empire, as we'll have to do that anyway and It's better to do it now then experiment with this later. We all have the demo ( I hope) and it can give us quite an objective opinion of what the game is in terms of mechanics, so I believe we are capable to work the set of rules out even now, before game's release.And If every of us posts here his suggestions on that topic, I believe we will get something very reasonable as a result.
Let me begin and tell what I think of all this. 4 ranks max depth rule seems inoperative now as only front ( or few first) rank is commited in shooting, so i think it might be cancelled.As well as GM which doesn't exist here. And what I'd also propose ( though it surely must be seen on practice first) is setting " playing without troops large banners" as one of the rules. I'm sure you've already seen that option in game's menu, if you haven't it you'll easily find it in Player's Options ( or smth of that kind, don't remember exactly). It turns off the huge banners which indicate your or enemy troops even if they are mooving through the forest or are 10 km away behind nasty hills. To my mind their absence gives space for more realistic gameplay elements like flanking the enemy position behind the hills or in the forest staying unnoticed or being unable to say how many troops is your enemy sending on you and how many he's hiding/leaving in reserve when they are 30 km away.
And one more thing, not the LoV stuff but still. What do u think shall the art limit be? And can it actually be now counted by number of artillery units in conditions where number of art.pieces in foot and horse artillery are different?
