I've been surfing one of russian forums and read a post I can't disagree with. One of history fans wrote quite sadly that Empire's land battles gameplay hardly reminds true line tactics because infantry in much more mobile it should actually be. Not only can it cross half of the field by running, it also runs into a bayonet charge which decreases the role of shooting itself. As for me, I totally agree with aforesaid.

What if we try to disable running for infantry? My arguments are:

    - It seems that even im MOD hand to hand combat lasts for too long. I didn't challenge human player, but when AI charges bayonets with half of his army it's quite impossible to stop him even if you shoot by volleys. Now, if infantry can't run (at least most of it`s way to the enemy), player will have to think twice before charging. And those crazy charges all the time might finally stop.

    - This would make ballance with artillery. Now there is a much complicated problem of using canister as it takes you long to limber/unlimber your guns and enemy infantry can easily reach you meanwhile. If infantry can't run, artillery could become more useful. And finally there would be at least some sence to use cavalery ( even since it was really much improved in MOD already).

    - There would be an opportunity to differenciate light and line infantry even more if we enable light infantry to run.In reality light infantry was called "light" not because it could shoot 10 meters further than the line, init?

    - Finally, it is historically accurate :study:

Now, of course I know that you mates are supporters of massive charges and stuff. But you still could find this idea quite interesting) Maybe we could experiment with it and see how it goes. What do you think?

I am against it, now JC modified stats fatigue field we know as a race
of long-term these are exhausted and may lead them to be faulty once in
contact with the enemy, if one removes Race guns are more fortunate I
do not see the point, the race can act quickly on a hot spot or the
battle and for replies would be completely negative once his back
turned to fire enemy to retreat to walking completely distort the game

Running is one of the reasons why I disliked Cossacks 2 so very much. While troops should not be able to run over the entire battlefield, they should at least be able to close certain small gaps quickly, otherwise you lose a valuable part of your tactics. We know that troops could march faster than they normally would in battles. As such, they should be given this ability in game, yet limited, as the Grognard mod has already tried to do.

I voted NO, for the simple reason that if I'm in charge of a regiment, I want my men to be able to run when I tell them to. Bringing line tactics alive? 4229066851 Razz:
